Yurun Song is a highly skilled and versatile musician specializing in composition and conducting, currently pursuing his studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. With a strong foundation in both disciplines, he is an accomplished conductor and a dedicated composer, committed to artistic excellence and musical innovation.
Yurun is a member of the Australian Band and Orchestra Directors Association (ABODA) and frequently participates in advanced masterclasses, including the prestigious “Creation” workshop led by Simon Halsey.
As a composition student, Yurun focuses on music theory and metamodernism, with particular expertise in 20th- and 21st-century harmony and counterpoint. He began piano studies at the age of three and has since received numerous international awards. His composition tutors include renowned composers such as Natalie Williams, Luis Saglie, Carl Vine, Amanda Cole, and Peggy Polias. He has studied piano with distinguished pianists Michael Roh and Choi Young Kown.
His academic and artistic interests encompass harmony, polyphonic analysis, the Russian School piano performing, and the interplay between music and metamodernist philosophy. Yurun has collaborated with a wide range of ensembles and orchestras, including:
